Ca răspuns la criticile aduse şefului Comisiei Europene, Jean Claude-Juncker, pentru vizita pe care o va face în luna iunie la Sankt Petersburg, pentru a participa la un forum economic, Comisia a redactat o listă a tuturor înalţilor oficiali ai statelor membre care au vizitat Rusia, în ciuda relaţiilor reci dintre UE şi statul rus. Lista, publicată de Politico, pune sub semnul întrebării angajamentul actorilor europeni pentru apărarea dreptului internaţional, încălcat în privinţa anexării Crimeei şi a conflictului din Donbass.

Printre liderii europeni care au încercat să menţină relaţiile calde cu Rusia se numără Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande, Matteo Renzi şi Viktor Orban, după cum demonstrează şi următoarea centralizare a vizitelor efectuate de:

  • preşedinţii Franţei, Finlandei, Greciei şi Austriei, care au vizitat Rusia pe 26 noiembrie 2015, respectiv 14-15 ianuarie 2016, 22 martie 2016, 5-6 aprilie 2016;
  • prim-miniştrii sau cancelarii Finlandei, Germaniei, Italiei, Luxemburgului şi Ungariei, aflaţi în Rusia pe 29 ianuarie 2016, respectiv 5 martie 2015, 10 mai 2015, 5-6 octombrie 2015, 17 februarie 2016.

Înalţi oficiali din nu mai puţin de 18 state membre UE au vizitat Rusia în ultimii 2 ani.

Meeting in Moscow on 2-3 February 2016 of the Austrian-Russian intergovernmental economic commission chaired by Vice Chancellor Mitterlehner on the AT side and Deputy PM Dmitry Kozak on the Russian side. VC Mitterlehner also met with Russian ministers of Economy and Energy as well as PM Medvedev. Visit of State Secretary Linhart visited on 18-19 February, meeting with Chairman of the Duma Foreign Affairs Committee, Alexei Pushkov and Deputy FM Titov. The Chief of General Staff Commenda met with the chief of Russia’s General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister Gerasimov.

  • IRELAND: The Minister of State for trade led the IE delegation at the Joint IE-RU Economic Commission on 8 December 2015 in Moscow. Political Director visited Moscow on 9 February 2016 for political consultations.
  • SLOVENIA: FM Erjavec participated in the Slovenian-Russian Commission for Economic Cooperation in Kazan on 15 September 2015.
